Celebrating Naga Music

In spite of an abundance of talent Naga musicians remain in obscurity due to lack of exposure.  The Music Awards of Nagaland (MAN) hitherto known as the Music Video  Awards of Nagaland (MVAN) was instituted by the Native Trax Society, Dimapur, Nagaland to create a climate of  professionalism and artistic innovation within the music community of Nagaland and to recognize excellence in different genres of music. MAN is the only award of its kind which aims to honour recording artistes and musicians of Nagaland.

The aim of of the Music Awards of Nagaland is to showcase the best original songs and music videos recorded within Nagaland and to promote the talents of Naga singers and musicians beyond the confines of our state. We firmly believe that this endeavor will ultimately raise the standards and bring about acceptance and appreciation of Naga music and musicians thereby opening up new avenues for our artistes and the fledgling music industry in Nagaland.

The Idea of the Music Awards of Nagaland (MAN) is to give artists the opportunity to:

• Showcase their songs

• Gain useful feedback from the public and industry professionals  

• Gain recognition and monetary rewards for their hard work

• Be included in the MAN compilation DVD which will be used to heighten awareness and increase exposure, and most importantly, to help the artists further their careers.

Our website is part of the World Music Webring which aims to promote music from different parts of the world.

POM Campaign 

In order to let the viewers choose the Song of the Year and also enable nominees to earn something for their hard work and creativity the Native Trax Society came up with the idea of the POM Campaign.

Under this campaign, voting cards are sold throughout Nagaland. The group/ artiste which receives the highest number of votes through public voting wins the Song of the Year Award. Each nominee also receives a percentage of the sales of cards submitted in its name. Our nominees have earned an amount of Rs. 3,45,644/- (Rupees three lakhs forty five thousand six hundred and forty four) in the last two years.

Encouraged by the positive response, we are planning to continue the POM campaign this year too. Nominees will receive 20% of the POM card sales. Thus just by entering the Music Awards everyone stands a chance of earning a handsome amount even if they don’t win!
